How to use the VADA perspective
When viewing an object in SquaredUp DS the VADA (Visual Application Discovery & Analysis) perspective allows you to automatically discover and map connections to the object to help with troubleshooting. This article is a walkthrough of using the VADA perspective on your own SquaredUp DS instance. VADA is powered by SCOM agent tasks, including "Get Netstat" tasks for Windows and Unix, which are run on demand on a node when VADA discovery is performed against it. VADA then uses that Netstat information to dynamically map connections between your nodes, using advanced modelling algorithms.
Walkthrough: Using the VADA perspective
- In SquaredUp DS search or browse to a server.
Click on the VADA perspective. Discovery will automatically run to show you any components, services and processes running. See Visual Application Discovery & Analysis (VADA) for more information about the icons shown.
In SquaredUp DS v4 VADA works by allowing you to filter in the components, services and processes you want to see. Click add next to any that you want to include in the map. The filter button allows you to add an item to the global filter which means it will be filtered out of all future discoveries. (You can manage global filters from the right-hand menu ☰ > system > EAM).
Click expand connections to discover further.
Click the analyze button in the tile menu to visualize the health and performance of the servers on your map.
Maps created on the VADA perspective cannot be saved. To save a map you should create an Enterprise Application (see How to create an Enterprise Application).
